Alistair McCready (PDINZ) is a New Zealand born designer, writer and typographer. His work has been recognised through various awards and accolades from the likes of The Designers Institute of New Zealand, Communication Arts (USA) and AGDA (Aus).

Alistair is motivated by an ardent belief in empowering stories of the past through design. He began his professional life as a printer, before moving to study design at Auckland University of Technology. It was here that Alistair began to engage directly in field of typeface design, which has since led him to produce work for eminent companies such as EON Productions, Cadbury and FIFA. While living in London, Alistair worked alongside the acclaimed team at Colophon Foundry, before forming his own typographic practice under the moniker; Monolith.

Alistair’s conviction and work in the preservation of heritage, has taken him to important sites and ceremonies across the globe including the 2017 Passchendaele centenary celebrations in Belgium. Over the last decade Alistair has travelled, documented, and engaged with monumental sites around the world — helping to educate various individuals and communities on the importance of understanding links to their past.

Alistair currently lives and works in Auckland, New Zealand. His artistic output consists of work for both national and international clients from various cultural sectors, along with personal research projects including pro-bono-based work for local heritage organisations.
