Ranim Al Halaky is a Lebanese/Syrian Graphic Designer / Visual Artist who graduated from the American University of Beirut with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design in 2015. The designer/artist’s approach has an emphasis on the use of Typography as a visual element in a contemporary and experimental way blending culture, poetry, and storytelling. Ranim’s work and research vary from print to 3D objects and experiences in space, leading to experiential designs.
In 2017, the final year thesis and project book/object in space, 50 METERS OF OMAYA’S STORYTELLING, was awarded The International Graphic Design Award and published by the AIAP Women in Design Awards in Italy. This project also won the Areen Award for Excellence in Graphic Design in Lebanon in 2015. In 2016, the project was awarded and published by Print Magazine in NYC, Merit Award for Typography and Lettering. Since graduation, the designer/ artist has worked with clients and designers internationally, including Amsterdam, Porto, Basel, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates through design studios, design schools, freelance, and collaborations.
Amongst the designer’s further achievements are working and art directing cultural projects like the UAE Year of 50th Golden Jubilee Brand and Strategy as well as the 50th National Day Celebration brand with the Dubai-based studio, Tinkah; along with other projects that include Expo 2020 signage pictograms, UAE Pavilion and Women’s Pavilion branding at Expo 2020, as well as the UAE Pavilion at Floriade 2022 in Amsterdam and Cop28 in 2023 with Amsterdam based company, Tellart.
Ranim’s artistic research and experimentation on Unheard Voices metal installation series started in 2015 and continues with a series of experiential and expressive traveling public and privately commissioned art installations. The latest environmental typographic public installation, 'Conversations Through Time' received the prestigious D&AD wood pencil award in 2023.
The designer/artist is currently an independent freelancer based in Dubai, UAE.
