Andy Vella (MA, RCA), works as a professional designer, photographer and artist, producing book jackets, corporate identities and conceptual album covers. He has won D&AD pencils for book jacket design and record sleeves (photography and craft).

He has been a long-term collaborator with The Cure for over 40 years, and has also worked alongside bands and artists on commissions for Iggy Pop, Mogwai, Pavement, Jeff Buckley, Glen Hughes (Deep Purple), Horace Panter (The Specials), Bill Bruford (Yes, King Crimson, Roxy Music), Mike Rutherford (Genesis), Peter Hook (New Order, Joy Division), Boards of Canada, Swervedriver, Atari Teenage Riot, Passenger, Gene, Mick Rock, The Warm Jets, The God Machine, John Tavener, Arthur Baker and Vincent Gallo.

Vella also produced the bestselling photographic monograph, Obscure, a visual narrative of The Cure from 1981 to today. He illustrated the limited-edition title, Curepedia: An A-Z of The Cure, and has contributed to a range of visual arts books, including Rock Covers by Taschen.

Vella’s work featured in a solo exhibition at Sydney Opera House, and has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne. His work forms part of the permanent collection of MoMA (NYC).

Andy’s previous cover artworks for Secret 7 have included designs for The Rolling Stones, St. Vincent, Primal Scream, The Cure, Miles Davis and The Chemical Brothers.

A Senior Lecturer at Middlesex University for two decades, Andy formerly worked as a Senior Lecturer at University of Westminster, and a Visiting Lecturer at Brighton University. He is currently a Senior Lecturer in Graphic Design at Arts University Bournemouth.
