Prior to starting Otto, Jo studied at Monash University in Melbourne, completing a B.A. in French language and Literature yet also studying genetics. Somehow this lead to a career in the moving image?!
Following her studies Jo travelled to London in 1999, for what was to be a 3 week holiday. This became 4 years, during which time Jo worked on the casting of the first Harry Potter Films, in long format features, and then settled into TVC and music video production, working with Tomboy Films, Partizan, @radicalmedia, RSA Films and Hotspur and Argyle to name a few.
In 2002 Jo moved to New York where she produced at Hungry Man for with Bennett Miller, and was ‘No 4’ in the early days of establishing Droga5. Returning to Australia in 2006, Jo moved to Sydney working as a Producer for Plaza Films until 2008. After 10 years away from Melbourne, Jo returned to her home town in 2008 and opened The Otto Empire early 2009.
Having produced for some of the biggest advertising names Globally, Jo is now one of the only women solely running a production company in Australia, and has a particular interest in nurturing and supporting new and upcoming talent.
