Kia's British, American & Jamaican roots have led to a creative journey across borders.
In 2007, Kia graduated with a BFA (Honors) in Advertising from The School Of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York and was ranked in the ‘top 100 Advertising Students in the U.S.’.
After working at ad agencies, from New York to London, Kia returned to her childhood home in Kingston, Jamaica. The place that holds a special place in her heart. There, she co-founded TCP Those Creative People, a creative agency and product innovation company while pouring into the local creative industry.
Kia made her screenwriting and directorial debut with ‘Flight’ in 2018. The co-directed Jamaican short film won 18 awards at festivals worldwide, was the 2019 Diversity In Cannes winner, selected for a special screening during Cannes Film Festival, one of 5 finalists at the 2019 American Black Film Festival and landed a 2-year licensing agreement with HBO.
Since then, Kia has gone on to direct music videos, TV ads, branded content, was selected by HBO in 2020 to shadow on ‘A Black Lady Sketch Show’ in Los Angeles and recently assisted with the narrative for the hybrid Puma Fashion Show, September 2022 in New York City. She is currently working on her first feature script and children’s book.
Of all the creative projects she has had the privilege of being a part of, her proudest is by far – the birth of her daughter in 2020. She has a passion for children and inspiring the next generation of creatives, especially those of diverse and underrepresented backgrounds.
