Lorna is a lecturer in Visual Communication for Level 4, Level 5 and Level 6 modules at Solent University. She is also a Level 5 tutor on the BA (Hons) Graphic Design programme. Lorna is inspired by mid-century art and design and the work of Saul Bass and Andre Francois, Miroslav Sasek and Raymond Savignac. Although her work does not draw on their idiosyncratic styles, she is influenced by the expression in shape and line and how it can connect an audience. Lorna works in both analogue and digital methods, with collage a particular favourite.

Lorna has recently completed her PhD. Thesis title: Illustrated British Cookbooks, 1939-1965: A Close Reading Of Cookbook Illustration as Textual Communication and Creative Practice

In her thesis she explored the British Illustrated Cookbook between the years 1939-65 and the interplay between author and illustrator. Her research has largely focused on the illustrators Alan Cracknell, Len Deighton, David Gentleman, John Minton and Juliet Renny.
