Masaya believes in the power of creativity to move people and make a difference in the world. He is known for his creative direction that focuses on simple human truths that resonate with people around the world. His bi-cultural perspective – drawn from his roots in Japan and the US – has been highly recognized by world-renowned clients such as Apple, UNIQLO, and the UN, among others.
As a starting Art Director at TBWA\HAKUHODO Tokyo in 2007, he won the ADFEST 2007 Young Lotus Competition prize for best young creative in Asia within his first year. He continues to accumulate awards and achievements during his years with TBWA\Media Arts Lab in Los Angeles and upon return to TBWA\HAKUHODO Tokyo, winning more than 100 national and international awards, including an Cannes Lions Outdoor Grand Prix and CLIO Grand Prix for Apple ‘Shot On iPhone’, bringing home the only Cannes Lions Design Gold for Japan this year, for The Para-Pingpong Table.
He not only works with global companies, but also on social impact projects to develop more inclusive cultures. He is currently working with Japan Para Table Tennis Association to spread the messages of Paralympic Sports, as well as with UN HABITAT to explore how creativity can help improve the plight of refugees living in some of the harshest and neglected conditions on the planet.
His stellar accomplishments have earned his place as one of the “39 Designers who will Change the World” by Forbes Japan this year, also as one of the speakers for TEDx Sapporo conference.
