Mark is a creative with decades of experience and is currently working from Whitehorse, Yukon in Canada’s north. He is also the former National President of the Design Professionals of Canada (DesCan). Mark was the first Indigenous designer elected to the position in 2018. He is also the first to lead from Canada’s Arctic region.
Mark is currently the Senior Creative at Outcrop Communications. Outcrop is the oldest Advertising and Marketing Agency in Canada’s Arctic. Outcrop is 50 years young with offices in each of the 3 northern territories, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
Mark is the former Lead designer at Animikii, Inc. Mark has worked as a freelance designer and completed projects with many Yukon based companies and organizations, such as Yukon Energy, Yukon Transportation Museum, the Yukon Wildlife Preserve and the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre. Yukon Wild, Tourism Yukon and Nahanni River Adventures just to name a few.
Mark began his career at Hangar 13 Art & Design in Ottawa, Ontario where he quickly built a reputation for cutting-edge design and top-notch client service. He worked with Fortune 500 companies like Royal Bank, Xerox and Bell Mobility. In his next role at Maximum 60 Design Communications, Mark honed his skills as the Director of Client Relations specializing in health-care. He worked with clients like Agro Health & Associates, Westpark Health-care Centre, Apotex Pharmaceuticals and Canadian Health & Lifestyle Magazine.
In addition to Mark’s private and public sector design experience, he is one of the few designers with deep roots and experience designing for Canada’s Indigenous communities and organizations. Mark’s portfolio is rich in annual reports, corporate brochures, research reports and book cover designs, but Mark’s real passion is for branding and visual identity. Mark has worked with many organizations to design their entire visual identity including logo, business collateral's, internal materials and stationery.
Mark holds a Diploma in Graphic Design from Seneca College in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He also holds a certificate in Innovation of Products and Services: MIT’s Approach to Design Thinking from the MIT Sloan School of Management and is a Certified Design Professional (CDP™) and past-National President of the Design Professionals of Canada (DesCan). He is also a Certified Designer with the Association of Registered Graphic Designers of Ontario (RGD). He commits his time to many non-profit organizations and is connected to his Ojibway and Anishinaabe roots who hails from Little Grand Rapids First Nation (Treaty 5 Territory), in northern Manitoba, Canada.
