Whether he’s breaking the Guinness World Book of Records for the creating the world’s largest robot, having his work celebrated at No.10 Downing Street, No.11 Downing Street, The House of Lords and The Lord Mayor’s Mansion House, becoming Cannes Lions’ first British-Asian Health & Wellness Jury President or hosting the World’s No.1 Marketing podcast – Shaheed lives to disrupt (pretty much everything) and give back to the industry while doing it.
Having spent most of his career as a creative in the advertising industry, Shaheed is currently Global Executive Creative Partner at IPG Health, where he brings his unique and sought-after brand of divergent and inclusive “spit-ball” thinking. This approach has served him well throughout his career. Early on as a student at Central St Martins, Shaheed was the most awarded advertising student in Europe; as an Art Director at AMV BBDO, he was the agencies youngest ever winner of a coveted D&AD Pencil award. When he ventured into the pharma communications space he became the worlds’ most awarded creative within 12 months. In his second year Shaheed broke his own record with over 150 awards.
Early in his career, Shaheed was acutely aware of the racial inequities in the industry. He was the only person of colour in his agency’s creative department and it often felt like, in the industry itself. Despite his professional successes, he was keenly aware of the lack of representation in the field. He realised that industry award shows, and more specifically, winning at award shows, is a key factor in building creative careers, reputation and impact. He realised that, in a largely homogenous industry, the same creative leaders awarded work that was created by people who looked like them and whose work was informed by similar life experiences. This led to one of his defining career achievements – the creation of the The Creative Floor Awards platform, the only dedicated healthcare award show in the world that re-invests a proportion of profits towards a Talent and Diversity Fund which helps those from under-represented and under-privileged backgrounds into the creative healthcare industries. He has raised over £200k as of this year.
