“We don’t want to freely be using cannabis when people, disproportionately Black, are locked up for doing the same thing,” said Ben Cohen, co-founder of Ben & Jerry’s, when he entrusted Eddie Opara, Partner-in-Charge and Creative Director at Pentagram to design for his non-profit cannabis company, operating out of Vermont, USA.

In his talk Is design spiritual? held at D&AD Festival in London, Opara, Partner-in-Charge and Creative Director at Pentagram gives the example of Cohen’s project where, “a hundred percent of the proceeds go towards the incarceration of Black men in prison,” as he discusses how design blends with spirituality. Watch this elxcerpt to learn how design, like spirituality, can create meaningful and purposeful experiences.
