School Night
Graphite Pencil / Direction / Short Form / 2024
Shortlist / Sound Design & Use of Music / Existing Music
The film is set to an iconic dance song Insomnia, by Faithless. It shows children causing chaos at bedtime in homes all over the country. It transitions into a montage of children/teens determined to ignore their families or anyone trying to tell them that it is bed time. The film then shows how harmony can be restored by the parents using their phones to turn off their kids devices and getting them to go to bed.
What did the judges have to say?
I think it's interesting to highlight the most-debated work in the Jury room, as it doesn't always end up with an award. But it should be highlighted as it was so heavily discussed, which clearly means it was a strong piece of work. I felt that the camera work added to the chaos of the children's performances and the overall message.
