Kibu Headphones
Wood Pencil / Product Design / Prototypes / 2024
The Kibu headphones are a set of sustainable circular kids headphones designed to be manufactured on demand in the UK. Kibu (KI-ds BU-ild) is a joint venture between the design and innovation studio and the additive manufacturer, set up to demonstrate that tech products can be made in a planet-conscious way and still be beautiful and playful. Components are 3D-printed on-demand from recycled materials, enabling size and colour customisation and repair or recyclability at end-of-life; instilling the principle of swapping parts out and keeping a product in use in kids at an early age.
What did the judges have to say?
Products and initiatives meant to be repairable and educational often sacrifice design and quality. Kibu captures the essence of design for repair without that sacrifice, resulting in a design that feels true to form, easy and intuitive to dismantle, utilising the technology by which it's made and with a clear directive to create positive impact in a fun way. We need more of that.
