Rights Against the Right – The First Trademark That Stops Trading Nazi Merch
Graphite Pencil / Commerce / Cultural Experience / 2024
Shortlist / Commerce / Inclusive
Where lawmakers have been incapable of acting with bans, we found a way for our client, the NGO Noise against Nazis, to stop the spread of Nazi codes for the first time ever: a legal hack using trademark law. We secured trademark rights for German and international Nazi codes at the European trademark office. As the new rightful owners of these trademarks, we can now bring Nazi shops to justice: By compelling them to remove and destroy the merch bearing these codes and claiming compensation for each item sold.
