Te Pae
Shortlist / Writing for Design / Storytelling / 2024
This book on Te Pae, New Zealand’s iconic post-earthquake convention centre, serves as a symbolic rite of passage. It celebrates the collective journey from grief and rubble to urban beauty. To mark this journey, we designed its narrative like the three-stage sequence in a rite of passage: Separation, Transformation & Return. The book’s materiality is the stage where this initiation ritual unfolds; book and building become a unified experience. Its fluid composition follows the rhythm of the building’s undulating façade; a tactile & visual interplay among photography, textures and die-cuts.
