Eyedar
Wood Pencil / Experiential / Use of XR & Emerging Technologies / 2024
Eyedar is the first app that teaches the blind to visualize their world with sound. After six years of development, including two years of testing, Horizon celebrated the commercial launch of the app in early 2023.
Eyedar was inspired by echolocation-a form of sensory substitution where the blind use the sense of hearing to visualize their surroundings.By leveraging the LiDAR 3D technology available on iPhones, Eyedar maps a user’s environment and translates it into 3D audio data.
With about 50 million blind people in the world, Eyedar can make echolocation a learnable and accessible skill.
