Iro is the first survey on Japanese design as seen through the lens of Japan’s traditional colour spectrum. The book celebrates a selection of 200 traditional colours of Japan, each illustrated by one or more design objects, ranging from the 16th century to today. The book is bound in a traditional Japanese style, with a tactile fine linen cover. The cover motif references the colour index as well as the shapes of the objects inside the book. The 200 colours also feature behind each of the objects as full-page gradients, allowing the entire colour range to be visible on the exterior of the book block.
