80% of people with HIV are afraid to disclose their status for fear of being judged and rejected by friends, loved ones, and society at large. As part of its ongoing #SmashStigma campaign for Casey House – a specialty hospital for those living with HIV and AIDS – Bensimon Byrne harnessed the power of fear to show the impacts of stigma. The short horror movie, Others, is based on interviews with six HIV+ individuals who shared their fears and lived experiences. The film marks the first time in history that a professional actor living with HIV was intentionally cast to play an HIV+ lead protagonist.
