The Right to Power: 47 seconds

Award: Wood Pencil

Wood Pencil / Direction / Creative Use of Budget / 2023

The Right to Power: 47 Seconds tells a story of helplessness, pain, despair, and debilitation. The daughter, who is breathing faintly, symbolises Lebanon, her condition deteriorating with every electricity cut. The father, symbolising Lebanese people, screams for help with every electricity cut. No one responds, just like no one is coming to Lebanon’s aid. The lights, colours, and camera movements add to the haunting bleakness. The film is shot in one straight take, and comes with a striking original soundscape and soundtrack.
