Gaming has a gender problem – both in terms of the industry and representation in games themselves. Girls Who Code Girls was launched to get young, aspiring female coders interested in a gaming career. A first of its kind, the experience lets girls code licensable characters that actually look like them. Using CSS, HTML, JavaScript, and Python, girls coded characters' body type, skin tone, facial features, hair, outfits, and more. More than 6,000 diverse character combinations were possible. The data was collected and shared with top gaming companies, urging them to improve their characters and change the future of gaming.
