Backup Ukraine uses cutting edge mobile technology to allow every citizen of Ukraine to do something that was once reserved for big-budget movie studios and game developers: creating high definition 3D models to back up their cultural heritage. All they need is a mobile phone and an app that’s freely available to the Ukrainian public. It’s powered by the volunteering efforts of a population set on saving their social and cultural heritage.
What did the judges have to say?
It’s said that necessity is the mother of invention, and it's true in this creative solution to very sad problem. An innovative use of new technology, that is now in the hands of millions of Ukrainians to help preserve art and culture that might otherwise disappear.
