Selling young girls for marriage is not only considered normal in Mexico, but those who attempt to escape are prosecuted and punishable by law. This World Children’s Day, Media.Monks worked with Yo Quiero, Yo Puedo to educate people on a gruelling reality that’s rarely discussed. I’m a Criminal tells the true story of 13-year-old Angelica who was sent to jail in 2021 for attempting to escape her arranged marriage. Every year in Mexico, over 300,000 girls share Angelica’s fate. The film shows it bluntly and encourages viewers to support Girls Not Brides, an organisation that supports victims.
