The colour palettes used in the Life in the Beijing Opera were designed according to the Beijing Opera stage curtains. Red references the first curtain, light green evokes the second curtain, and light yellow symbolises the third curtain. The books guide the reader through the repertoire, play name, play type, storytelling, roles, extended reading, drama lyrics, and paintings, which were created in the style of freehand Chinese painting.
