SeaCo is a two-week home compostable biopolymer made from sustainable harvested red seaweeds (specifically, Gracelium and Gelidium). The material aims to replace the non-compostable crude oil-based polymers currently used in single-use throwaway products. Currently, the material has been used to produce compostable monoclonal antibody tests and PPE in light of the global Covid-19 pandemic. Alongside medical uses, the polymer has also been used in traditional darkroom photography printing, replacing the gelatine-based emulsions and papers that create a lot of non-recyclable waste.
