Shot on iPhone 13 Pro, Detectives uses a typical movie scenario to demonstrate the iPhone’s Cinematic mode feature, while unpacking it with self-referential dialogue. In a scene channelling a detective thriller, two cops are seen on a stakeout. The police officer in the background is having an existential crisis about being blurry, while the police officer in the foreground explains that the camera is simply focusing on the most important character. As the dialogue eventually shifts the narrative in favour of the blurry police officer in the background, the camera pulls him into focus. But it’s a red-herring, and the focus ultimately shifts back to the foreground hero.
