Music Moon

Award: Graphite Pencil

Graphite Pencil / Packaging Design / Consumer / 2022

With the difficult beginning to 2020, life suddenly lost its original vitality, and festive gatherings became even more important occasions for people. In Chinese culture, the circle symbolises beauty and reunion. A gift box was designed to coincide with the annual Mid-Autumn Festival (also known as the Moon Festival), drawing on concentric circles and the symbol of the moon. The box was designed to help people find joy in everyday life again and reconnect with other people.

What did the judges have to say?

"I like it, what is it? To understand the product is to experience the packaging. An absolutely beautiful piece of design work, which completely integrates the product and packaging while interacting with the viewer on a sensory and emotional level. The packaging is tactile with use of moulded pulp material; includes a speaker which the sender can use to personalise a voice message and load a selection of music, as well as an atmosphere lamp giving off a warm glow. This cake and tea packaging goes beyond the primary use and is intended to be sent to friends and family to bring love and warmth at a time when we needed it the most. Meant to keep and use, however the moulded paper material is also biodegradable. The ring form is a Chinese symbol for beauty and reunion, a ‘life ring’ at a time when we need it the most."
