Most people don't know how their data is being exploited on the internet. What are we really agreeing to when we accept cookies? UNESCO believes that people should have control over their own data, so to raise awareness about the exploitation of personal data, UNESCO launched the Cookie Factory. The online extension browses the web on the user's behalf in order to organically replace their cookies with those of an imaginary profile. The goal was to show the people the impact of data collection in a playful way by fooling the algorithms.
What did the judges have to say?
"Part high-tech hack, part mischievous poltergeist, part acid trip – this wild way to experience the unseen forces of internet cookies was firing on all my synapses."
Adam Murphy, Experience Director, Philips
