The Journey opens with a girl and her imaginary friends as they reluctantly sail away from home. Heartbroken, they watch their old house disappear. Their move is a fantastical journey, through storms, canyons and eerie woodlands. They finally arrive at a cave in the mountains. As night falls, they hesitantly move inside. In the morning the girl is awoken by a child's voice outside. As she looks out, her world snaps to reality. A new neighbour is waving at her. She waves from the window and leaves behind her companions behind – now revealed to be toys – as she runs from the house to meet a new friend.
What did the judges have to say?
"The Journey is a wonderfully crafted piece of sound design. It has no music, yet succeeds in conveying a lot of emotion despite never seeing the protagonists face as they run through war torn land. By using the intimacy of foley, breath, well chosen sfx, atmospheres and tonal sound design, the viewer is transported to a visceral kind of experience."
Abby Sie, Sound Supervisor & Sound Designer, Song Zu
"This piece of work is so well-scripted, well-directed and brilliantly shot. Such a well-told piece. I loved it!"
Monalisa Mukherji, Founder & Executive Producer, Little Lamb Films
"Outstanding level of craft, hand-in-hand with the visuals and the sound design that brought every footstep to life like never before."
Shereen Mostafa, Head of A/V Production, Leo Burnett Dubai
