History of Kite
Wood Pencil / Book Design / Culture, Art & Design Books / 2022
History of Kite was written by Xu Yiyi in 1992. As a folklore history treatise, it retains the visual experience of a traditional Chinese book while introducing experimentation and interactivity. The typography of the Old Song fonts blends with modern design elements. The illustration looks like a kite floating in the air. The use of handmade paper and thread binding makes the whole book feel soft, giving it a unique air of simplicity and elegance.
What did the judges have to say?
"I found the quiet design of this book especially charming. The airy and delicate paper fits the subject, the design is classic yet playful and the illustrations of the kites are simply beautiful."
