Creature Discomforts: Life in Lockdown
Wood Pencil / Direct / Film / 2021
For many, lockdown was their first experience of being locked up. ENGINE used that to make people feel empathy towards wild animals in captivity. Together with Aardman, it created Creature Discomforts, which plays on their much-loved Creature Comforts construct using real interviews of people’s experiences of temporary lockdown to tell the stories of animals forced to live under lock and key forever. Made completely in lockdown, the film was seen by millions and shared by BBC News, Ricky Gervais and Greta Thunberg. More importantly, many people’s perspective on animal captivity changed forever.
What did the judges have to say?
