As Covid-19 hit New York City and millions went into lockdown, the Ad Council turned digital out-of-home space into personal letters of gratitude for the essential workers who were the only ones still out there on the street, so that the rest of us could stay safe at home. They were #OutThereForUs. People could deliver messages of appreciation directly to these workers via Twitter, using the hashtag and location tags. Then their messages appeared on repurposed, donated media space ( including some as big as Times Square), specifically placed where essential workers would see them.
