But the environmental impact of phones is not only limited to manufacturing – it’s also how we power them. 3.8 billion smartphones make up an important part of global CO2 emissions. So, Back Market – a marketplace for refurbished smartphones – created CO2NCIOUS, an app that reduces CO2 emissions every time you charge your phone. It shows, in real time, what energy sources are powering a device, the CO2 emissions of your charge, and the best time to charge your phone to trigger less emissions.
