Anyi Ancient Village Lantern Project
Shortlist / Spatial Design / Design for Public Spaces / 2020
This project was designed to create a new tourist attraction in the ancient village of Anyi in southern China. The unique charm of the area lies in the harmonious coexistence of the village, which preserves old traditional landscapes, and the rich natural environment symbolised by the 1,500-year-old camphor tree. In order to express the charm of this village, Nippon Design Center restored the original tradition of viewing the full moon during the Mid-Autumn Festival, giving lanterns new colours, shapes and functions. As a result, a unique landscape has emerged based on the tradition.
