Instead of seeing the athletes directly, Shadows as Athletes emphasises the determination and the resolve of the players. This is probably because the brain, which has been given abstract information in the form of shadows, tries to compensate for the lost information in order to understand it. The viewers use their imagination while watching the movie, turning the images into something universal.
