Violent and powerful, Kendrick Lamar's music video contains powerful imagery, some of which references photographs of civil rights photographer, musician, writer, and director Gordon Parks. The video’s aesthetics are essential to the action within each scene. Although many of the images are borrowed, the way they are brought to life feels new, with the editing and cinematography seeming to imitate memory.
