Wood Pencil / Product Design / Sustainable Product Design / 2016
Millions of Ganesha idols are immersed in the sea every year.
The toxic materials used in the making of the idols, over time have been polluting the waters and killing the fish. We needed a solution that took care of both, tradition and the environment.
We created unique fish friendly Ganesha idols from vegetarian food ingredients that the fish can eat. And we painted them with natural food colours and encased them in river clay moulds. The size was reduced to just 9 inches. The idols' outer coating was designed to dissolve in under 4 hours, leaving the rest for the fish to enjoy.
