SOS is a charity that helps protect critically endangered Sumatran Orangutans. We were asked to create a fundraising initiative. We suggested a poster highlighting that a small amount of money can go a long way.
Noticing a correlation between the colour of Orangutans and one penny pieces, we came up with the idea of creating a mosaic of a young Orangutan using nothing but pennies. Instead of constructing it digitally, we physically made it, sorting through over two thousand coins to take advantage of the wide tonal variations found in pennies. SOS were able to auction the framed artwork.
