Deng Adut
Wood Pencil / Film Advertising Crafts / Direction for Film Advertising / 2016
Deng Adut’s true story from Sudanese child soldier, to refugee, to Western Sydney University Alumni to refugee lawyer is one that makes him a role model for the region. Playing himself in the ad, Deng’s local community came together to support him and were cast alongside him. Some of these, being refugees, had faced the same adversity as Deng, but confronted their own past horrors, crying as they put on soldiers’ uniforms, to tell Deng’s powerful story. Underpinning this emotive story is an equally moving track by Sydney artist Jarryd James, produced by two-time Grammy winner Joel Little.
