Matisse in the Barnes Foundation
Graphite Pencil / Book Design / Culture, Art & Design Books / 2016
The Barnes Foundation contains one of the world’s largest and most significant collections of work by Matisse. This landmark edition surveys the collection in a design that celebrates Matisse’s extraordinary use of color. The slipcase and bindings feature colors derived from Matisse’s “Le Bonheur de vivre,” one of the most important paintings in the history of modern art. Interior pages are printed on the full spectrum of colors from the Italian paper maker Favini. The display typeface is Vanitas by Michael Jarboe, and the text typeface is Leitura by Dino dos Santos.
