Light After School
Wood Pencil / White Pencil - Creativity for Good / Design - Not for Profit / 2015
Haier is the world's top brand for household electrical appliances. But in western rural China, a lack of electricity has forced people away from convenient living. Children are restricted to studying by candlelight. To help, Haier and Publicis Shanghai created a rechargeable lighting device that uses only one socket, but offers light to an entire class. Hugging Brightman utilises a tandem system, meaning multiple devices can be chained together and charged using the same socket. One hour of charging offers two hours of light. Children can charge the devices at school and take them home to illuminate their evenings.
