Carnival of Hell - The First World War and the Senses

Award: Wood Pencil

Wood Pencil / Spatial Design / Exhibition Design / 2015

This exhibition at the House of History Baden-Württemberg focusses on the emotions and perceptions of people during the Great War. The prologue is based on five sensory points, with the exhibition centred around three large showcases representing different scenes of the war: the frontline, the base and the home front. The historic exhibits establish connections with individual stories and experiences related to the war. Quotations, images and film clips appear to float weightlessly over the exhibits, and a calendar, extending from the first to the last day of war, frames the whole exhibition as a chronological band.
