The Mill's team pushed the boundaries of VFX with the creation of a 100% CG orangutan, to highlight the positive actions of energy company SSE. The 90-second spot, worked on over the space of seven months, is the result of a very controlled workflow across the VFX team's many departments, and sees the CG character climbing buildings and appreciating the bright lights of a big city. The VFX team went to extraordinary lengths to create a photorealistic CG ape, building the skeleton from scratch and developing a fully functional muscle system, as well as sculpting each wrinkle by hand, before seamlessly compositing the orangutan onto live-action plates of a busy city scape.
