Labyrinth by Mark Wallinger
Graphite Pencil / Graphic Design / Wayfinding & Environmental Graphics / 2014
Labyrinth by artist Mark Wallinger is Art on the Underground’s most ambitious commission to date. It comprises 270 permanent vitreous enamel artworks (one for every station across the network), to commemorate 150 years of London Underground. Collaborating closely with Rose and Mazescape to realise the artworks, each unique black and white graphic labyrinth has a red 'X' at its entrance, symbolising the beginning of the viewer's journey ('you are here'). They represent the orientation and contemplation experienced everyday by millions of Londoners and visitors who use the labyrinthine network.
