Recalling 1993
Graphite Pencil / Digital Design / Digital Installations / 2014
‘Recalling 1993’ promoted the New Museum exhibition, ‘NYC 1993: Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star’, which brought together an array of powerful artworks made in New York during 1993. Our campaign focused on bringing the gritty character of that year to every Manhattan street corner with the last remaining relics of the era: the payphone. By recording hundreds of stories from some of 1993’s most famous New Yorkers and creating a massive back-end database, ‘Recalling 1993’ turned every single one of Manhattan’s 5,000 payphones into time machines. Every phone delivered a unique story specific to the street corner it was on.
