Fishing for Ink
Wood Pencil / Crafts for Design / Illustration for Design / 2014
We wanted to create a project that would redefine the paradigms of print media. The book contains 20 nautical tales and in keeping with this theme, we incorporated squid ink in its production so that the object would smell like the sea. More than 700 books were printed from two litres of pure squid ink, sourced from a Dutch fish auction. Everything was done by hand and we used almost every craft we could think of. Each screen-printed page is joined in Japanese stab-binding that uses fisherman's thread. Our process represents a harmless and innovative approach to the use of natural materials.
