Perverse Paintings. Albert Oehlen
Wood Pencil / Book Design / Book Front Covers / 2014
Albert Oehlen’s oeuvre shifts between abstraction and figurative art. It’s characterised by a certain relentlessness, lending it a disturbing and often overwhelming quality as details are often left concealed in the complexity of the background. For this collection of Oehlen’s paintings and drawings, we featured one of his sketches on the front cover and fixed a plate over it, titling the book and the artist's name. This partially obscures the image and, and as with Oehlen’s work generally, we are compelled to imagine something far more explicit than what is actually disclosed.
