A Cycling Lexicon
Wood Pencil / Book Design / Entire Books / 2014
Taking inspiration from the compact head badges and logos that are commonplace fixtures on most bicycles, the book’s format was designed to be understated. It’s small enough for each graphic gem to be shown in its actual size, one per page, and thick enough for the spine to replicate a real head tube. We put our favourite head badge – from Main d’Or – on the front cover using foil blocking. The 400 examples were arranged alphabetically, with coloured headbands and gilt edged pages completing the suitably biblical nature of this little publication – a book of visual stories from long ago, crafted as a testament to these beautiful bicycle artefacts.
