Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela
Yellow Pencil / Radio Advertising / Sound Design & Use of Music for Radio Advertising / 2012
The Nelson Mandela Foundation wanted to inspire ordinary people to take responsibility and help realise Nelson Mandela’s ideal of a just society. We adapted Nelson Mandela’s iconic closing statement at the Rivonia Trial in 1964, before he was sent to prison for 27 years. We changed his words to challenge listeners to imagine a world where no one, not even Mandela, has the guts to take a stand for what is right. We used the same approach with Martin Luther King’s celebrated ‘I Have a Dream’ speech, made to civil rights supporters in 1963. Both spots were also selected as single executions in the ‘Radio Advertising over30 seconds’ category.
