Wood Pencil / Magazine & Newspaper Design / Magazine Front Covers / 2012
This cover needed to illustrate that the space shuttle and all it represented had come to an end. It had to be different and stand out from what else was going to be published – in addition, I wanted to convey what was going to happen to the shuttle in retirement. I thought of it becoming a museum piece or an object in an art gallery, which is when Fiona Banner’s harrier jet installation at Tate Britain came to mind. I replicated her installation, with the shuttle replacing the jet – I did a rough Photoshop sketch and then sent it to a 3D artist who photographed the space and rendered the shuttle.
