ELLE October 2009 Issue -- Lily Allen
Yellow Pencil / Magazine & Newspaper Design / Entire Magazines / 2010
To celebrate 25 years of London Fashion Week, ELLE chose British singer Lily Allen as its cover star. Lily has graced countless covers in recent years, so we gave her an ELLE twist in the form of a chopped blonde wig, messy make-up and – in a magazine first – specially commissioned artwork by fellow influential Brit, Pete Doherty. Doherty’s poetic lyricism perfectly complements the bold, graphic photograph, used in an unusually tight crop. His inky scrawls mirror Allen’s glossy black eyes and contrast with the stark peroxide hair. The magazine’s front cover was also selected in the Magazine & Newspaper Design/Front Covers category.
