The Apollo 11 lunar landing was the realisation of JFK’s grand vision to land a man on the moon. To honour the 40th anniversary of the landing, we recreated the mission online in real time. At precisely 9.32am on 16 July 2009, Apollo 11 took off again at wechoosethemoon.org, exactly 40 years after the historic mission. The stages of the trip were portrayed using 3D animation. Accompanying the visuals were 102 continuous hours of mission audio, and hundreds of images from NASA and the JFK Library. In addition, 650 of the most interesting audio transmissions were rebroadcast via Twitter, exactly 40 years after they were first heard.
